According to Hitwise, Facebook outdoes Google as the most visited website among US internet browsers for the first time in the week of March 7-13.

The most important milestone as being described by Hitwise director of research Heather Dougherty came as Facebook enjoying the massive 85% increase in visits in the same period, compared to the same week in 2009.

Face book is the close rival site of Google for marketing services. The social media site also topped the top spot during Christmas Eve, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and the weekend of March 6 and 7.

Along with Facebook and Google compared for 14 percent of all internet visits in the US for the week. Reports even claim that Facebook had a plan to challenge Google in the pay per click marketing platform.

Google positioning challenges in recent months to Facebook and to the Twitter a micro-blogging site through adding the social networking feature Buzz to its Gmail service.

In what could signal an amplify battle between the social media site Facebook and Google, the leading social-networking service celebrated its sixth anniversry earlier this year with changes including a new message inbox that echoes Gmail's format.

Facebook brag some 400 million users while Gmail had 176 million unique visitors in last December, according to tracking firm comScore.
